Highlights & Achievements
Contributed to the concept design of the Hilton Windhoek by undertaking detailed site and environmental analysis, helping to shape the building’s massing, orientation, and passive design strategies in response to Windhoek’s semi-arid climate.
Provided input on materiality and buildability, recommending locally sourced materials and regionally suitable construction methods to ensure practical delivery and alignment with budgetary and labour conditions.
Produced coordinated early-stage drawings and outline specifications that balanced Hilton’s global brand standards with local regulatory compliance. Led CAD-based coordination using disciplined layering systems and documentation protocols, ensuring clarity and consistency across all consultant and design packages.
Facilitated design discussions, resolving technical queries, and delivering a well-structured design intent package that enabled a smooth transition to the delivery architects.

Martin Kruger & Associates (concept design & planning)
Strategically positioned at a key city gateway, the Hilton Windhoek is conceived as both a landmark and a contextual response to Namibia’s landscape. The 40-metre-high glazed tower marks the main entrance and houses a dramatic full-height atrium, promoting vertical connectivity and natural light throughout public areas.
The spatial organisation prioritises legibility and transparency, with clear circulation paths and visually animated lift shafts expressed as glazed vertical volumes. Public amenities—including lounges, dining, and banqueting spaces—are layered across the lower levels, while guestrooms occupy the upper floors, offering panoramic views of Windhoek’s mountainous horizon.
Materially, the hotel references its desert setting with sand-coloured stucco, local granite, and a restrained interior palette. Sculptural lighting and coloured glass elements provide moments of vibrancy within the otherwise calm, cohesive atmosphere.
Sustainability is integral to the design, incorporating green roofs, solar shading, thermal glazing, and ventilated cavity walls to reduce environmental impact and enhance comfort in the arid climate.
